Custom custom Inconel 718 double thread offset studs were manufactured for our aerospace customer. The offset head, double thread, and hardness of material made these parts extremely difficult to manufacture. The head radius measured .203″ and a combination of 5/16-24 2A and 1/4-28 2A thread was cut to a length of .842″. Definitely one of the toughest parts we have dealt with – the hardness of the material created countless issues with tool life. Full certs with FAIR were provided with the parts.

These custom stainless steel torx drive knurled shoulder screws were manufactured using 304 stainless steel material with factory passivated finish. The shoulder measured 2.29-2.48MM X 19.05 +/- .12MM. 2-56 UNC 2A thread was incorporated at a length of 5.56 +0/-.5MM. A T8 drive was cold formed and the outside of the head aggressively knurled for optimal finger grip. A 180 degree nylon thread lock patch was applied over the threads to complete the production process.

We had these custom automotive 12-point flange bolts manufactured in grade 8 material (4140 alloy steel) with both low head and high head options. 1/2-13 2A thread was rolled on both version slightly undersized to allow for coating thickness of the Geomet zinc flake + top coat and black sealant. Prior versions of the bolts our automotive customer used were experiencing failures from the hydrogen embrittlement resulting from the use of black zinc electroplating – black Geomet zinc flake coating was used to eliminate this risk and increase corrosion resistance at the same time.

These custom round head shoulder wood screws were manufactured at 10,000 pieces using 316 stainless steel material with plain finish. The head/shoulder combination was cold headed and the thread rolled. Shoulder dimensions were 3.8-4.0mm diameter by 5.5mm minimum in length, with the rolled thread at 15.88mm min usable thread. It’s round head was specified to 7.5mm-8.0mm diameter and 2.75mm-3.05mm height. Material certs were supplied with the parts.

We supplied these custom 12 point flange bolts to our automotive customer at 5,000 pieces per size, with size ranging from 12.6MM shoulder diameter X 1.70″ to 12.6MM shoulder diameter X 3.2″. 4140 alloy steel material was used for the production with heat treatment to reach 39-45HRC hardness. Black oxide finish was the last step in the production process. 3/8-16 internal thread was tapped on all size configurations to reach a minimum of 18MM in full thread depth.

These custom stainless shoulder captive screws were manufactured using cold drawn stainless steel bar stock material with a cold headed head and drive.  6-32 thread was incorporated at 5mm +/- 0.5, with a lead in chamfer per print.  The head was made to 8mm in diameter and 1.5mm in height, with the step shoulder measuring 3.6 in diameter by 2mm in length.  The long captive shoulder was set to 2.3mm +0/-0.2 diameter.  Overall length is 31.5mm and the head featured a #2 phillips drive.

These custom 316 stainless captive shoulder screws were manufactured domestically with plain finish. The captive shoulder area measured 2.94MM X 12MM +/-.005″ and the M4-0.7 thread covered 8MM of the overall length. Slotted pan head was incorporated per standard IFI dimensions. The metric thread on these parts was cut rather than rolled.

These custom knurled shoulder bolts are the result of the tests we ran with different knurling methods mentioned in one of the previous posts.  Parts came out perfectly but we did run into some challenges with the lead times, being behind initial expectations due to tooling delays early in the process.  We had to throw money at expediting every part of the process where possible to try to limit our delays as much as possible – some sleepless nights worrying about these bad boys and our customer’s dire need.  Every good factory and secondary processor across the nation is absolutely swamped so make sure to buffer lead time expectations as much as possible.

41L40 material was used with heat treat and zinc plated finish.  1/4-20 thread is incorporated at 1″ in length and the shoulder measures at 5/16 diameter by 1/2″ in length.  The head is at 3/16″ in height and 9/16″ in diameter.

This is a special shoulder screw to print we have supplying for a number of years, manufactured in the United States using 304 stainless steel and distributed to the customer on as needed release basis with a blanket purchase arrangement.  Lead time for an item like this based on a quantity of approximately 10,000 pieces is 8-12 weeks, with significantly shorter lead time available for a small quantity run using one of our specialty small quantity manufacturing partners.
